For Boys Only: 5 Obsolete Ways You Must Learn to Win A Modern Day, Hard-To-Get Filipina

When was the last time when you think that you are the best guy for this new girl that you have just met a few weeks ago and then, after all the sweet texting and evening phone calls, she said "No" and ended up everything?

I guess you are not just the only one who have experienced this kind of heart-breaking situation. Every guy is facing these I-am-sorry-but-no moments after proposing courtship to a girl. You might feel you're temporarily half alive for a moment, for days and even for weeks. Staggeringly painful, isn't it?

Now, you might want to assess yourself again. What's wrong with your techniques? Are your words persuasive enough or more likely you are bragging yourself so high that your girl could no longer reach you? Are you too fast that you are already becoming too pushy to give you her "yes?"

You believe that you are now living in this world of Web 2.0 so as much as you could, you utilize every single resource to court her. You relied on WeChat, Viber and KakaoTalk and might have used all the emoticons to express all your feelings. But do you think that's all enough for her to get what your message really means?

Let's start all over again. Let's try to remember all the basics of courting a Filipina. Though this might not all work for you but I believe that these tidbits of obsolete information could somehow improve your strategies to the next level. You must note too, that this old method of courting has effectively been used by our long lived, chickboy grandfathers. Who knows, this might work for you this time and finally will win her heart.

Ready?

Here are some of the obsolete things that you should not ignore:

1. Do harana and sing from the heart.

Harana is the Filipino version of serenading. It's when you grab a guitar (or have someone play it for you) and you'll all do the singing. Yes, it's the old, traditional way of going to the girl's house, knocking on their door during the evening and asking if you can sing a song for her.

The dreadful possibility? If the girl says "no" or worse, will say "stop it" then I guess that's the end of your courtship. However, if she smiles at you as you sing, then oh, there's a ninety percent of winning her heart!

You might say: "Sorry but I can't sing well." It does not really matter though. As long as you don't sound as bad as the perforating and cracking noise produced while cutting a galvanized iron sheet, then you'll be fine. Things not to forget for a successful live performance? Dedicate more time to rehearse, cultivate more confidence and of course, sing from the heart.

2. Write a letter to your Juliet

Writing a love letter on a sheet of paper is one great way to become her Romeo. It's still always so good to have your message handwritten than emailed. You know that excitement of opening the envelope wondering what's inside? This is more romantic than just clicking that icon on your desktop screen saying "You have just received a message!"

Instead of putting these computer-generated emoticons and stickers, you can show a little bit of your creativity by drawing some cool stuff or showcase a bit of your impressive calligraphy.

The downside: The only thing that will stop you from doing this is if you really have a bad, bad handwriting. To make sure your message is readable, ask a very close friend to do the proofreading.

3. Meet the monsters (read: the parents)

Like are you serious? Yes, I am.

If you really have an honest intention to propose courtship to that girl you like, then this is the noblest way to express your sincerity.

This would be the most difficult task to do but this is I think the most rewarding of them all. The grand prize is not just the sweetest "yes" that you're waiting to hear from your girl but also you might as well can get the kind of approval and support from her parents.

4. Turn her on, poem her up!

Like, oh man! I know you might have not done this yet since flip top and rap seem to be the new kind of poetry nowadays.

But I know that you know how Jose Rizal delighted some girls during his era. These girls did not love Rizal alone but his poems too.

Jose Rizal has used effective writing techniques
specially in expressing his emotions in his poems

Instead of copying some not-so-famous lyrics around the web and claiming it as your own, why not spend the whole night writing some stanzas?

Just right after she read your work, expect a long-lasting and rewarding resultyour pogi (handsome) points will surely go skyrocketing high! More than just writing a letter, your effort of writing her a poem will get you another step closer to the door of her heart.

5. Chop her some firewood and fetch water for her from the well.

You might say this would be the craziest tip.

Paninilbihan or what is better known as servitude is one of the oldest but most effective ways to convince a Filipina to believe your sincere and serious intention of courtship. In this method of courting, you are encouraged to go to the girl's house to do a little of the household choreschopping some firewood, fetching water from the well, to name a few. It is a way of showing you'll do everything for her no matter what it takes.

But are there still some firewood to chop or wells to fetch water from nowadays? Good question. Of course in this modern world of technology, you can hardly find these around your neighborhood now. So you need to think some alternatives. Why not fetch her from school or from work everyday, cook dinner for her or volunteer to carry her bag (if you think it's too heavy for her to handle)?

"Above all, courting does not need to be like rocket science"

A girl must really see and feel how honest and serious you are

The old Filipino ways of courtship I think is one of the most romantic in the world. Since most of the Filipino women still apply the norms of playing a conservative and hard-to-get role, this encourages Filipino guys to work harder and cultivate a willing-to-wait attitude.

However, foreign influences as well as the evolution of technology have primarily affected our norms on courtship. Some may look at paninilbihan and harana as old-fashioned and corny now. But somehow on the other guy's point of view, it's still a sincere, romantic and expressive way to show what you really feel.

I am not saying these obsolete ways will work 100% effective for you. Courting a girl does not need to be like rocket science, though. Well, I think the last but the most important thing is, the girl must really see how honest and serious you are. Always remember that patience is a virtue. Creativity too, always works. If you can't really do a live harana performance, why not record a video of yourself singing a love song and send her the link!

I'm telling you, there are so many ways to a girl's heart. It's just that, the road is a little bit rough. But you can apply these tips to smooth it out. I'm sure, the results will be surprisingly life-changing.

  1. Nice Article! Masyado kasi tayo bilib sa kung ano ang ginagawa ng mga kano. Nakakalimutan natin ang tamang pakikitungo. Wala nang konsepto ng dalagang pilipina
