Guimaras: The Mango Capital of the Philippines

You can always see mango trees along Guimaras' busy highway. These trees are all scattered along  the narrow barrio roads, at the middle of the rice fields, around each home's backyard tooyeah, they are almost everywhere! It's undeniably that the mango booming industry is the prime source of Guimaras' big income next to tourism.

To produce a large number of mangoes every year, Guimaras Island has 8,000 hectares of mango orchards managed by corporations and individual growers (nscb.gov.ph). Their mangoes are known to be the sweetest in the world and was reportedly served at the White House and Buckingham Palace.

Where to find the mangoes?

As a matter fact, mangoes are being sold almost everywhere here.  But of course,  it's always cheaper and you'll have more choices if you go to the marketplaces.

And so, I went to Jordan Public Market to taste the famed mangoes.

I found a lot of stalls here selling mangoes. Of course, I did not pass the chance to taste Guimaras' pride:

True enough, I can testify how great these mangoes are. Truly sweet, like the people of this island.
